Rock & Roll legend Chuck Berry has died at age 90.
Here he is in a live performance of one of my favorite R&R tunes, Roll Over Beethoven.

"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Very clever lyrics. Everyone imitated his guitar licks. A hard working talented guy who fully earned his success and then some.
ReplyDeleteI was once again impressed by the power of Country music to read how much it influenced him. Otherwise the other big 20th century influence is surely Gospel and church singing, at least postwar in both pop and jazz. Them's the roots.
Bruce: the country influence really comes through in songs like Maybellene.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting how much country music has influenced rock from the beginning. I never knew that some of the music my parents played, and what teens considered rock, or was influenced by, was country. Sadly, too many people still denigrate country music.
