Yeah the Saudis are showing him respect. Also they are Iran's enemies.
He did work on a lot of domestic stuff before taking this trip which keeps US power in play without much effort. It flanks Putin's Syria Iran alliances (remaining despite Obama's enormous and treasonous efforts towards Iran, shows what a fool he was).
Gives the Pres a break from domestic loonies and is a reasonable move in the 4D chess game. I like Steve Sailer's suggestion that the Pres's style is modelled on George Steinbrenner.
