Well, Happy Australia Day, anyway

"Australia Day is scrapped in Melbourne because it is deemed offensive to Aborigines..."

Must be nice! Wish I belonged to a group that could be offended.

Call me a Would-Have-Been-An-Australian if my dad had had his way back in the 50s when Australia was giving away land to attract immigrants. So, I'm offended anyway.

Melbourne's sort like Oz's San Francisco, right? Or is it more like their Seattle?

Or maybe their Portland?

It's looking more and more like Berkeley UC. Incidentally, Fremantle here in the west pulled the same stunt last year and was forced to a partial backdown.
The Melbourne councils supposedly have a similar demographic to Fremantle, high in Greens and SJWs. Two councils have tried to justify the decision with surveys. One survey polled about 300 people, got a thumbs up from 78.6 percent of those questioned. Not exactly a pounding endorsement when the population is upwards of 80,000.

Moreland City Council is half hour from the centre of Melbourne but a different jurisdiction. Most people just head to Melbourne to see the fireworks anyway. Along the Yarra River.

Cancel the 'welcome to country smoking ceremony', which would cost thousands of dollars paid to Aboriginal specialists, while claiming they did it to respect the latter. It's a shame if they don't have the New Citizens ceremony, but then downtown Melbourne can take that up. Basically I think they're just saving heaps in their budget (paid to Aborigines and middle eastern security workers! Habib will protect you with his Glock!) while hiding behind virtue-signalling. Politics is a devious art.

We had an apartment in Coburg we sold 10 years ago for peanuts. Surrounded by Lebanese gangsters who refused to pay upkeep and had family interventions in the parking lot. Now it's all gentrified and worth half-millions. Used to regret selling, but it's all too crazy.

Mayor Samantha Ratnam.

Tamils are good people in their own land (I stay in Tamil Nadu and love their food), but their loyalties are to any 'black' people they believe they represent. You are finding that out with Kamala Harris. The Sri Lankans just had a terrible half-century dealing with it.

In contrast, Sikhs like Nikki Haley are loyal fighters for any country they make home. Sikhs are North Indians, Tamils are South Indians. Northerners are more trustworthy, which is why after trying elsewhere the British based themselves in Delhi.

In the British Empire we made distinctions by race, which still hold true: Gurkhas are fantastic warriors for example. I stand by this and won't give it up.
