Joe Donnelly steps in it

During a debate last night, Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly wrong-footed himself while trying to brag about the diversity of his staff:
"Our state director is Indian-American, but he does an amazing job," Donnelly said. "Our director of all constituent services, she's African-American, but she does an even more incredible job than you could ever imagine."
In other words, "I have minorities working for me who, believe it or not, don't suck at their jobs."

Now, what's really funny to me is that Colby Itkowitz at The Washington Post, when reporting on this story, immediately identified Donnelly as a "conservative Democrat" (sorry, article is behind a firewall and I can't link it). She just had to tarnish him, somehow, and she couldn't very well call him a Republican, so she made sure everybody knew that he wasn't, you know, a "real" Democrat.

But is this even true? Is he a conservative Democrat? I thought those things had gone the way of the great auk.

Not related, but watch how I pull a reverse Donnelly...

CNN talking air-head Don Lemon said we have to "stop demonizing people", and in the same breath demonized white men. He's an idiot, even though he's an African-American.

Oops, insert foot in mouth. Why didn't they call him 'far-right' or is that term reserved?

I think that term's reserved for people and organizations banned by Facebook.

Wrong-footed? More like revelatory.
