Happy Feet Friday

Erskine Hawkins brings the sophisticated swing, with "Drifting Along", from 1945. The instrumental piece features solos by the estimable trumpet man Mr. Hawkins - billed as the "20th Century Gabriel" - and by Julian Dash, who plays some smooth tenor sax.

Bonus tune! Julian Dash played for Hawkins throughout the 1940s. By the early 1950s, he had started doing studio recordings with small groups, including his own septet. Here's a number called "Creamin' Boogie".
