This is impressive: "97-Year-Old American Parachutes for Second Time in France 75 Years Since He Last Did It on D-Day". Of course, considering the circumstances, that first jump 75 years ago is impossible to top.
"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh

The boffins did their part at D-Day, too.
ReplyDelete“In the preparation for the June invasion, British and American geologists studied nearly one million aerial photographs of the Normandy shores, scouring the images for the ideal landing site…The Permian-Triassic metamorphic rocks found inland at Normandy turn into the medium-grained sands the invasion planners needed to literally support the landing.”

My great uncle (grandpa's younger brother) was in Army Air Force intelligence during the war, as a photo interpreter. He was extremely busy in the weeks leading up to D-Day. He's in his 90s, but still likes to hint-brag that he's seen things that are still classified (that we were spying on the Russians in 1944-45, I imagine).
ReplyDeletePlease relay our heartfelt gratitude to him. We are forever indebted to all, such as your grand uncle, whose service ended a great evil, liberated the oppressed, and preserved freedom and western civilization. May God continue to bless him!
DeleteWell, God bless him, Spiny.
