Ridin' Flyin' the range

Ain't no escapin' progress: "Drones on the farm: Using facial recognition to keep cows healthy".

Well, Jed, I reckon we're gonna have to learn to code.

For some reason, as I was reading this story about drones & cows, I kept wondering how Gary Larson (The Far Side) would translate it into one of his cow-centric cartoons.

Dang, I miss The Far Side. Probably wouldn't pass the PC standards today, tho.

I approve of this technology.

This is the same thing as years ago when cowboys started to use ATVs to herd cattle. Technology advances.

I miss The Far Side too. Most of today's "humorists" probably wouldn't even understand those cartoons. My favorite was the frog who tried to catch an airplane with his tongue.

Modern wrangling. Yesterday, we came home to find a heifer sauntering across our driveway. She went across the road, stood next to the fence of the large pen where herd was. Richard notified traffic. I tried to keep her calm. Bossie stood quietly next to the fence as a couple semis and regular trucks came by. All was quiet until the a guy showed up. I tried to tell him and Richard she was getting spooky, but it fell on deaf ears. Then he started running her down the fenceline to find an opening. Nope. Bossie runs back up, turns the corner, runs into the neighbor's drive. They get her out. I block it so she can't get in. Then she jumps the barbed wire into a neighboring pasture. The owner had showed up. He and the other guy lower the fence, then head her back; she leaps, heads back and goes into the gate. I pulled out of the neighbor's drive, and she glared at us as she pulled in.

Sounds like quite the impromptu rodeo!
