Blackhawks are good pistols -- I'm pleased to hear that they sponsor Paco Enterprises™!

Ma Paco got Old Paco a Ruger Super Black Hawk back around 1970, and he passed it on to me about 15 years later. It's the three-screw model that preceded the development of the transfer bar technology, so it has some collectibility. It's a sweet gun! Old Paco and his buddies in the ATF took it out one day to do what he called some ballistics testing - shooting up an old car - and he said it put bullets through the engine block, no trouble at all. First time he ever fired it, that monster .44 Mag round made the gun back up in his hand so sharply it cut the skin and drew blood. I take it out of the box every now and again and rub it down with an oily cloth, but I've never shot it. Btw, it's a long barrel, just like in the picture.

I once had a .41 Blackhawk, and, yeah, that was a beast to fire. A fine pistol, but too sassy for my tastes.

I've got a .41 Blackhawk. That baby kicks! Any cartridges over 200 gr, and I have to wear a glove. I try to stick with lower charges.

I've got a Redhawk in .41 Magnum, too; haven't shot it yet, but it's a tank and it's got rubber grips, so I expect it'll soak up some of the recoil.

We desk jockeys don't have the calloused hands of our forefathers.

That grip looks like a wristbreaker to me. Not that I know anything.

Hoglegs take practice to fire accurately, but while single action revolvers may not fire quickly, they are very simple mechanisms, and are quite reliable. Alas, magnum loads take more training to be able to handle the recoil.

The .41 Magnum that I once owned was a good pistol, but I had to change the grips to Pachmeyers, as the originals came checkered, and my grip wasn't tight enough to keep that rough surface from burning my hands. Those worked great, but then I found that the ammunition can be hard to find. Between that and the high recoil, I elected to part with my .41 Blackhawk. I wasn't ecstatic about it, but I really prefer .45 ACP.
