"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Only cooking show I've ever watched regularly. I loved me some Justin
ReplyDeleteLove Justin Wilson! His show was Cajun cooking with hilarious stories, especially the ones that included gators. And the accent made it credible and more hilarious. Wish Lays still had those chips. They need to resurrect that flavor. Hmmm. I need to make a phone call.
ReplyDeleteI liked the mesquite bbq chips but they're gone. Maybe mesquite is an endangered gender now? I dunno.
ReplyDeleteck: Same here. I recollect seeing Wilson's intro to making three-bean salad: "We gonna make three-bean salad. Now, what we gonna do is take a can of green bean, a can of kidney bean, and another more can of green bean, dat's your three beans, right dare".
ReplyDeleteThe Cajun patois is my absolute favorite American accent.
I also love the stories about the dog named Fido - or rather, in the Cajun style, P-h-i-d-e-a-u-x.
ReplyDeleteWay back when I first started as a safety engineer, I took myself pretty seriously, and I found I was putting my audiences to sleep. So having lived all my life among the Cajuns of Louisiana, and having a good memory for the patois and the type of humor Cajuns go for, I started interspersing my talks on safety with Cajun humor.
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't actually a Cajun himself, but he made the Cajuns famous when most of the world didn't know who or what they were. He was my dad's favorite comedian, and we were continually quoting his famous catch phrases. My favorite is "How y'all are?"
"How y'all are?"
ReplyDeleteThat's wondermous!
