Republicans and some Democrats who would like to be reelected next term voted down Gov. Ralph "Coonman" Northam's attempt to ban so-called assault rifles and high-capacity magazines.
So, there's some hope for the Old Dominion, yet.

Depends on your definition of 'hope'.
If by 'hope' you mean, "Wherr the civil war/revolution/War of Lefty Aggression starts" then it's not so hopeful.
I wonder if VAians are going to re-elect those tools, I also wonder if the VA GOP gets off their fat .....s.
I saw NYers go all supine in that situation, so I'm not very sanguine.
By "hope", I mean maybe there will be enough voters next time around who, having become alarmed at Democrat overreach - on this as well as on other issues - will throw the bastards out. Of course, as you suggest, the VA GOP is, indeed, going to have to get off their fat a$$ to facilitate this. So, the outcome is in doubt, but not hopeless.
