Goes POOF? Now why would you want to do that? I thought the purpose of hunting/shooting pretty little birdies was to eat 'em. Kinda need some meat left on them for that, donchya?

I wonder if these guys were using Du Pont to make the railways back then (here outside Sydney)? Check out the long hand drills and barrels of black powder, and you can see a fresh face they just blasted off:

Incidentally, I have a friend who hunts quail and doves, and he cooks them wrapped in bacon strips. Sounds delicious (but then, anything wrapped in bacon is probably delicious).

Many were supposed to be Irish but the article puts that in perspective. We still see the half-holes on cliffs and cuttings where they blasted their way through and I looked into how they were made.
