Monstrous

We had a bit of a discussion about monster movies going on in the comments section of one of my recent posts, and I mentioned an old favorite of mine, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms. Here's a classic scene (love the dramatic background music). And btw, I've got a tip for law enforcement: don't go up against a dinosaur with a .38 Special revolver.

Here's Ray Harryhausen talking about this movie, which, I believe, was the first one in which he had total control over the special effects.

Ray Harryhausen was a legend.

He also created the creature animations in Jason and The Argonauts (1963).

The fight scene with the skeleton warriors was incredible (and, if I recollect rightly, one of the most difficult visual effects Harryhausen ever pulled off).

A wondeful classic! Complete with panicked crowds, a timely thing concerning the current rush to buy toilet paper.

Another favorite classic monster movie of mine: THEM! With James Whitmore and James Arness. Alas, Ray Harryhausen did not support this film. But the special effects are still good.

"Jason and the Argonauts" -- that popped on TV a while ago, and I forgotten how much I enjoyed it. Still do, even if CGI is light years beyond what film makers had back in the 1950s.

Amazing you can do with a few pounds of clay and near-infinite patience.
