Just to do our part in fixing the nation, ya know.
To get ahead in the military, especially for field grade officers, it's less a question of competence and professionalism, and more who you know and how hard you kiss their butt(s). That was the case when I mustered out in 2006, and it's clearly gotten worse since then.
This cretin is an example of that.

We've had that problem before every war.
1941 was an extreme example. 1942 solved that problem.
