Even more Illinois corruption!

Why, it's enough to give me the vapors: "FEDERAL INVESTIGATORS DIGGING DEEPER INTO PRITZKER’S $331K PROPERTY TAX BREAK".
In April 2019, it was revealed [Governor] Pritzker and his wife, M.K., were under federal investigation for the tax breaks. M.K. Pritzker had directed workers to remove the toilets from the home during renovations so the mansion would be deemed uninhabitable, resulting in a property tax break. After an inspection was complete, she had them reinstall one toilet in J.B.’s “hangout/meeting area.” J.B. Pritzker said he would pay the taxes when the tax dodge was revealed during his campaign for governor, but that has not cooled the interest of investigators.

Boss Tweed: "Now that's just plain hoggish, governor!"

Not my Governor.

Just ordered a Trump 2020 face mask. I figure if ol' J.B. issues a mandatory face mask decree, at least I'll wear one that he'd hate.

The Trump store also had a mask that said "This mask is as useless as our governor". I may have to get one of those, too.

If you're an elected official in Illinois, you are either corrupt or a tool.

If any Illinoisans act surprised they should be shunned and laughed at.
It's not even a joke, corruption is just the way it is.

Just like NY, they have the gov't they want and I'm glad they're getting good and hard.

V: Hard to argue with that. The political system in Chicago and in the Illinois state government has been encrusted with corruption time out of mind, and the absolute best face one can put on it is that a lot of people haven't been paying attention for a very long time. But that's really an overly generous assumption. In reality, there's just this great blob of sleaze consisting of politicians, well-connected constituents, ideological fanatics, bloated unions, dumbass special interest bloc voters, race hustlers and low-information pea-brains, all of them cooperating in the destruction of their own communities, fully convinced that they're extremely sharp operators who are outwitting everybody else, including their own nominal allies.

There's a large element of truth in that, Paco. It was certainly the case when I lived in Cook County, and worked in downtown Chicago. Complacency was the name of the game for a large segment of the population. Until their bubble was burst, and then, hoo doggie!, watch out! Then the outrage flew forth like bullets.

But those people can only blame themselves, because the sleaze (as you so correctly call it) was not only rampant, it was glaringly obvious. I certainly saw it, although I had the advantage of being raised in a (more or less) sane community where corruption was stomped on early and often.

I left in 1989, and I can tell from the news that matters have only gotten worse.
