Some splendid jazz guitar from Wes Montgomery, with “Four on Six”.

Amazing to a guitarist how Wes just plays mostly with his thumb! (You have to have a pretty strong thumb as it gets tired).

Then his famous 'octave' solos (from 1:19 in the video), where he took the simple idea of playing a note in the bass (with his thumb) and the same note an octave higher (with forefinger) simultaneoulsy, and sliding those notes up and down the scale. That sound was so popular every guitarist had to add it to repertoire from then on, the 'Wes' sound.

For example Robby Krieger's solo in Light My Fire (The Doors) is totally 'Wes'.
