It's true

Leftism really is a form of mental illness: "Seattle City Council Overrides Mayor’s Veto, Begins to Defund the Police".

For whatever reason, Seattle is bound and determined to turn itself into the opposite of a Potemkin village.

Update  When "expertise" pushes out common sense: "Civilization Requires Collective Common Sense".

Experts, not common-sense citizens, have been failing America.

So very very true.

Some people who never before owned weapons, or even opposed the use of firearms, are now terrified to remain unarmed. Self-protection often outweighs abstract ideology.

I live in a semi-rural area of Washington State, which is to say, there are moderately large cities surrounded by extensive rural and agricultural lands. And Oregon is literally just a few miles south. As a consequence, we have a mixed population of political ideology. But the gun culture is alive and well, in spite of the marxist idiots running both states (into the ground, but that's another story).

And that surge in gun ownership is abundantly clear, even here. Our local range has been overwhelmed by requests for training and information about the use of firearms. We're conducting monthly clinics for first time shooters.

The only thing that surprises me is that those gun owners are actually asking for information and training. Because that's common sense, and I thought it was dying out.

And the elected leaders will NEVER get a clue.

Another example also comes from the formerly great city of Seattle: the same council that overrode Durkan's veto also voted to fund the legal defense of the openly Marxist member, Kshama Sawant. Which is not only a conflict of interest, but ethically unsound.

And they did it anyway.

Then there's the highly questionable decision by the Seattle autocrats to hire a pimp as an alternative to a police.

I have relatives in the western part of the state. When I visit them, I make an effort to avoid the Seattle metro area. King County has problems, but thus far the rampant idiocy is contained in Seattle proper.

So far.

For similar reasons, I stay the hell away from Charlotte, NC. It's not as radical as Seattle or Portland in absolute terms, but by NC standards, it's pretty far out there.

I'm in Mason County, on the Olympic Peninsula. Only one incorporated area, about twenty miles away. Mason is one of the counties that went red in 2016. No idea if it will happen again, but I do see way more Trump signs than Biden ones. However, I have gone from carrying intermittently to carrying every time I leave the house.

And I can go out back into the timber company land, set up a target or steel, and shoot away. Which I try to do at least every two weeks.

Steve: I'd love to be able to pretty much just go out my back door and shoot at targets.

I regularly visit relatives in Clallam County, Steve. Walla Walla County isn't as bad as Clallam, but it's sliding in that direction, thanks to gentrification.

So I hears ya, I truly do.

A good policy, Paco. The liberal urban areas I view as enemy territory. And they are the most likely to burn from rioters.

Don't wanna make you feel bad, but I just did that about 30 minutes ago. Went out on my deck, and tried some CCI Mini-mags in my ammo-picky 22 pistol to see if they work. Went thru 3 or 4 ten round mags, before deciding they worked fine. Sure beats having to load stuff up, and go to a range. :)
