I have a t-shirt with that Mad Max image on it, and it has the feral kid's soliloquy from the end of The Road Warrior in "handwritten" script in the background. It's at least 35 years old, and much too ratty to wear anymore, but I keep it because it's still cool.

Spiny - quite likely it's a collector's item too. I've never seen one, nor even knew that design existed.
As for the Lileks gallerie de comestibles disgustament, I got as far as Zarzuela while eating lunch. Applaud my manly heroism.
'"A type of Spanish vaudeville or operetta, usually satirical in nature," so named for the Palace of Zarzuela, the royal residence of Spain. That's one definition. The other is a dish swimming with clams, mussels, squid, shrimp, and other formerly-swimming things.'
True Zarzuela, as seen in the illustration, must first be immaculately prepared in a serving dish then slopped carelessly into a second serving dish.

Lileks is great.
His daily bleats during the week are required intertubes surfing.

A little off topic, although some Paco readers have expressed an interest in WW2:
I found this site fascinating:

Germany, Now & Then 1933-1945

That stuff is addictive Mike, because it's so alien in the 1930s. My son lives in Munich near Odeonsplatz but he has no interest in history. He's an engineer designing tech hardware, from his apartment at home now. He has permanent residency and likes it there, no plans to leave. Of course half his wage goes in taxes.

My Favorite Cousin's son was in the Army in Germany. Married a young lady, they are now living in Nevada, where he is handiman & she is water treatment guru for the state, 2 beautiful bi-lingual (tri, if you count the spanish they use) free-range kids. I haven't seen Bobby since he was in grade school, but I do know they travel to Germany to visit Grandmother every year & she comes there, too...or did, until this year.

Lileks just cracks me up...thanks for the mention!

I love the Biden pic sitting at the table with the scribbles, and thought, Yep that's him.

We spent three years in Munich, in the Perlacher Forst neighborhood, which at that time was dedicated to US Army personnel and NATO personnel. It was what you'd call truly a diverse neighborhood with residents from all over the world (also not fenced in like most places like that, so we just kind of blended in to the surrounding neighborhoods). The nearby base, McGaw Kaserne, was a "listening post" keeping an eye on the Soviets, but all the military are gone from Munich now. Not sure about NATO. We had a good time there.

Yes Rebecca, my wife landed in Germany as a teenager early 1970s, and worked as au paire for the family of the son of, I think, a Luftwaffe general back then. When she learned German she worked in a bank and for Siemens. Late 1970s everyone feared nuclear war again, the Germans told my wife Australia was the safest place, she got instant permanent residency here when she applied. We met a year or so after she came here, in Melbourne.

bruce,

Here's that Mad Max t-shirt. I'm pretty sure it was not an "official" product.

Gregory, rather. I forgot who replied to that.

The Biden thing is darn funny and perfect.

I saw a bit about horse-riding cops dispersing anti-covid theater protesters in Australia. All the articles call the protesters out and cheer on the mounted cops running them down.
WTF is going on in Australia?

That's the only one that's not totally against the protesters.

Veeshir, so far the tyranny is restricted to the state of Victoria, which has a commie Premier tyrant, Daniel Andrews firmly placing his jackboot on the throats of Victorians.
Scott Morrison the Prime Minister of Australia was talking about mandatory vaccinations.

When I wear my tinfoil hat, I could swear there is a global conspiracy afoot to implement Agenda 21, the U.N. plan for the 21st Century.

Vernon Coleman, a British doctor and author, agrees.

Spiny - thanks for the pic! You're right, it doesn't look official - but it's damned good!
Mind if I share the pic online?

Sure. Feel free.

Aside from a a couple of tears, the real reason that I don't wear it is that it's much too small now. I haven't fit in a medium in 25 years.
