Classical corner

From Ferde Grofé's Grand Canyon Suite, here's "On the Trail". The heavy downbeat humorously mimics the clopping of mules, and the video depicts a dizzying descent on mules into the Grand Canyon.

Mules and vertigo and dizzying heights...oh, my.
Amazing how the mule steps synchronize exactly with the music.

Mules got rhythm!

I think it would be fun to take a trail down into the Grand Canyon, and mules are more sure-footed than people, so I guess it's (comparatively) safe.

And the mules have probably done it a thousand times and know every rock on the trail.

Never been on the trail or a mule but I have rowed a boat down the canyon 13 times.

I think I'd rather take my chances with the mules, ck! Although, if you've done it 13 times and lived to tell the tale, I guess it must be reasonably safe.

Say, you're not one of those wild men who pilot kayaks over waterfalls, are you?

No tupperware (kayaks) for me. We call them klingons, they're always hanging on to your boat "can I have a beer?' ha

Yeah, kayaks aren't for me. I can't see the appeal of floating downstream upside down, with my head bumping on the rocks on the bottom of the river (which is afraid how I'd wind up doing it).

This brings fond memories of the family gathered in my Aunt E and Unc's living room on Sunday, after church. My sister and I sat on the floor, while chairs and sofa were reserved for the grown-ups. There was an assortment of music, including The Alley Cat, and the Grand Canyon Suite. I can still picture the scenes my imagination painted while listening to the Suite.

I, unfortunately, never took a mule ride into the canyon on any of my many trips, but I did hike a short way down. The ascent was challenging even tho I was physically fit. Now those days are long gone, and I wouldn't subject and mule or horse to any attempt at carrying me. It would constitute animal abuse.
