There are still those of us who value American citizenship, and I would like, especially, to wish Mrs. Paco a happy citizenship anniversary. Thirty-eight years ago, today, she was sworn in as a U.S. citizen in a ceremony held at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida, at which then Vice President George H.W. Bush made a speech.
Mrs. Paco became a citizen, Reagan won reelection and the Detroit Tigers won the World Series in 1984; one of the best years of my life.
Happy Citizenship Day to Mrs. P, and every other immigrant who came here legally.

I'll try to find a photo of Mrs. Paco from her swearing-in day. On the evening of that day, one of the national news channels (I think it was NBC) had a report on the ceremony, since there was such a large number of people attaining citizenship (over 9,000), and because VP Bush was speaking (in an election year). I was watching the news, and, for a couple of seconds, Mrs. Paco filled the screen, holding our 3-year-old son in her arms; he was holding a little American flag.
