Know your history
The History Guy discusses the development of Colt firearms through the years. I was particularly interested in the short-lived Colt Burgess rifle line that was established to compete with Winchester.
Ian McCollum at Forgotten Weapons has covered the development of the lever action rifle comprehensively, and I recall him mentioning the brief fracas between Winchester and Colt that resulted in them withdrawing from pistol and rifle development respectively, and leave those market segments more or less open to each other.
THG briefly covered the Colt semi-auto pistol collections. I was interested in the display of the various Colt Woodsman models. It's almost a footnote now, but the Woodsman was pretty much the ultimate .22 LR semiauto until Bill Ruger usurped it.
I'd love to have one of those Burgess rifles, but I went online to look at some prices and - hooo, boy! - way out of my price range.
I have a Ruger Mark22/45. I got a recall notice about two weeks after I bought it, and still haven't sent it back. It's one of a very few guns that I wish I had never purchased - not because of the recall, but because, from what I read online, it's an absolute pain in the ass to disassemble and, especially, reassemble.
