It still perplexes me that several populations who because of historical experience should be the most wary of a massive omnipresent government align with the statist party. Specifically, Jews, gays and blacks (though one could add many others).
You'd have expected them to prefer minimal government authority, yet all three of those groups tend to demand a pervasive, intrusive authoritarian government. I assume that's because the individual members expect to be the ones holding the reins of such a leviathan state. In other words, they expect to be wearing the fascist boot stomping on faces.
