I learn something new about my state practically everyday

"Two mines in North Carolina are the world's only producer of the quartz necessary for semiconductor manufacturing".

This operation's located in or near the town of Spruce Pine, up in the mountains, a few miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Looks like a nice place: kind of remote, nice scenery.

Update: RebeccaH, in the comments - "Shh. You don't want to alert terrorists to something they can blow up."

That's ok. Paco Security has got things under control. Ain't that right, Uncle Josiah?
