Today is the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, a day to remember and honor the allied soldiers who made such enormous sacrifices in the fight against one of the most evil regimes in history. I pray that humanity will always possess the resolve to stand against tyranny - and to recognize it, wherever it may appear.
And in case you haven't heard about the ominous crossword puzzle that appeared in the Telegraph shortly before the invasion, here's the story.

I pray that humanity will always possess the resolve to stand against tyranny - and to recognize it, wherever it may appear.
ReplyDeleteEspecially when it appears in your own backyard. Tyranny has to be voted out, before you can't.

ReplyDeleteRegarding the Times crossword, in 1944 Astounding Science Fiction published the short story "Deadline" by Cleve Cartmill, which described not only the design of an "atomic bomb," but also the technical processes behind it and the moral and ethical implications of its use.
ReplyDeleteAnd so the FBI investigated Cartmill, and the editor of Astounding, John W. Campbell. The investigation included authors Isaac Asimov and Robert Heinlein also and concluded that the story's appearance was entirely coincidental and that the author had used publicly available information to write it.
God bless all who participated. I whole heartedly agree with Paco, and rinardman. May there always be people willing to stand against tyranny wherever it forms.
ReplyDeleteIt was surprising that there are so many participants attending year. One was a WAC. I wonder how many remain. May God continue to less them all.
