So, when was Haiti granted independence by the colonial power? 1960's? 1970's? Maybe as late as the Eighties?

BTW, 'reparations' in French is just a fancy word for 'repairs', like repairing a leaky boat.

DeleteI was afraid for my grandson and his family but they were on the outer edge of the storm and missed the damage. We in SW Ohio, on the other hand got a regular monsoon and hurricane-like winds that tore up a lot of trees. We did need the rain though, after a nearly summer long drought.
