My younger son has a huge tattoo of some Martians from Mars Attacks! on his side and stomach - sort of wraps around his right rib cage. It's very well done (the tattooist was his older brother), but I understand it was extremely painful.
If it happened today, the scientists and soldiers would get five minutes of being feted like heroes. Then some damn bureaucrat would present the bill for all the damage they'd caused. AND for not even inquiring about their alien pronouns.
