It did not take me long to recognise the piano player, and hints from your clues helped.
It's not Gene Kelly. Just saw a Youtube where Ted Lange the Love Boat bartender said he got Kelly to talk to him about working with the Nicholas Brothers. Then I found a clip of Kelly and the two brothers dancing together. Incredible. No wonder it was a special memory for Kelly.

I watched the video with Ted Lange just a few days ago, and I also saw the one with Gene Kelly and the Nicholas Brothers. Great stuff!
