And now, a word from our sponsor

  1. That flight helmet looks like a fish bowl on that guy. I would have loved that toy as a kid, but Post cereal products were on our breakfast table.

That rifle was modified to semi-automatic, with a slightly different assembly; the receiver, barrel, AND magazines are stored in the butt. It became the Armalite AR-7 survival rifle; you can still buy it from Henry Rifles.

This rifle was featured in "From Russia, With Love", as "Two Twenty caliber"; Q said that with a straight face. It's .22LR.

    1. I've seen them for sale on line, including the new ones manufactured by Henry. They seem kind of cool; probably make a nice kit gun.

  2. I've seen those, I would have loved the toy and might have wanted one if I had had one.
    But....
I prefer a pistol, long barreled.
A.500 or a .44 mag would fit in a smaller space, not need to be assembled to fire and has a much more useful round.
You shoot an enemy with a .22lr, he yells at you, "That hurt! Cut that out!"
You shoot an enemy with a .44mag or.500 he yells, " " and stops bothering you.

    1. I wonder if the survival rifle was more about shooting game (small game, to be sure). As a defensive firearm it has limited utility. I'd much rather have my S&W 57, with the six-inch barrel, about my person.

    2. I'm pretty sure small game was the reason, Paco. Fighter pilots generally carry a revolver (.38 or used to be) for self defense.

    3. Fair enough.
I'd still rather have something else.
      .22LR is of limited utility.
Head shots mostly, even on squirrels or rabbits.
You can break down a 20 gauge coach gun to about the same size and take most small game and also use it for defense.
That's why I never wanted that rifle.

  3. I got one of those as a kid, and it turned me into a mass murderer.

    Well, I got better.

    1. Just because you haven't killed anyone doesn't mean you're not a mass murderer.
