Well, if he can call himself a conservative, I can call myself an anarcho-syndicalist or a Fabian socialist or a Falangist or a Jehovah's Witness or anything I like, because words obviously have become detached from their original meanings: "‘Conservative’ David Brooks Wants Everyone to Know He Has Admired Joe Biden for a Long Time".
Oh, and btw, it's not as if we didn't already know that - about admiring Joe Biden, I mean. Brooks is one of the most absurd political fabulists of our time, a fake conservative whose whole career has been built on ignoring and/or distorting facts, on cutting and folding puzzle pieces so that the end result looks nothing like the picture shown on the box. I imagine the only reason the NYT keeps him around is to peddle the fiction that the paper provides both sides of every political issue. It is positively obscene that this member of the ignoscenti is provided a platform for expressing opinions that are routinely, manifestly idiotic.
