The liberators

It is 81 years since the momentous invasion of France by allied troops, but no extent of time should erase our admiration for the courage of those troops, nor diminish our commemoration of the heroism and the terrible sacrifices that occurred on D-Day (and every day thereafter, until the war was brought to a successful end).

Here is war correspondent Ernie Pyle's first column about D-Day, written a little less than a week after the event.

  1. I pray to God we never have to have another war where we’re just throwing bodies at the enemy. Let the robots fight it out from now on. Let’s have drone dogfights if we must, last drone flying determines the outcome. Let oligarchs (who are responsible for most wars) duel with each other. What a world that would be.
