The painting is a true masterpiece, but the artist who covered Cupid without disturbing the line of the girl's head and the green curtain was no amateur either.
This is probably an admission of inferior taste, but I rather prefer the painting without the Cupid; it tends to overwhelm everything else. A smaller Cupid would have conveyed the intended symbolism just as well, I think.
