Israel Agrees to Trump's Plan to End Gaza War, But You Can Guess Who's Going to Torpedo It
We’re back to this game again. Israel wants to end the war, but Hamas needs to sign off—and they won’t. It’s the same nonsense that’s scuttled innumerable ceasefire agreements. It’s almost as if you can’t trust terrorists, which is something the liberal media, Democrats, and college students don’t understand, albeit the latter party is so antisemitic that they don’t care. If Hamas is that entrenched in Gazan society, then it should be excised.
American presidents always get seduced by the siren song of peace in the Middle East, and usually the results are either ineffective or disastrous.
The first mistake is allowing the concerns of Palestinians and their supporters to take a position, front and center, among all the other international concerns in the world. Why, for example, is a resolution of the Palestinian issue more important than stopping the Muslim genocide against Christians in Nigeria, and Christians and Druze in Syria? Devoting as much time and effort (and blood and treasure) to solving the Palestinian problem simply tends to give credibility to their (mostly imagined) grievances.
In the second place, an agreement such as the one proposed depends largely on the acquiescence of Hamas and other intransigent groups. Palestine has always been used to get leverage over us by a variety of enemies (ours and Israel's); does anybody really think that our foes are eager to remove this thorn from our heel? Plus, as long as Hamas is permitted to continue its existence as a political unit, peace will ultimately prove to be impossible.
With all due respect, Mr. President, this is not equivalent to doing a big New York real estate deal. Fanatics exist in a world that has its own, unique logic, however twisted, and Hamas and its supporters are not speaking the same language that you are, and undoubtedly will keep acting in bad faith. I wish you well in your endeavors, and maybe this is another version of multidimensional chess that is beyond my comprehension (e.g., maybe you're setting Hamas up for the blame when this fails) but my estimation of the prospects for success? Low.

In 1797, Joseph Haydn wrote a patriotic anthem celebrating the reign of Holy Roman Emperor Francis II. The music, with different lyrics, was subsequently adopted by several countries as an imperial anthem, including the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was also adopted as an anthem by Imperial Germany, and continues as the music for Germany's national anthem today. Sadly, the strains are probably best known in connection with the Nazis' "Deutschland über Alles", a few bars of which were frequently used in WWII movies to underscore the presence of SS or Wehrmacht officers.
The music is typical of the majestic melodies and dignified cadences of the 18th century, and this is my favorite instrumental version. The video incorporates scenes from the 1955 romantic period drama, Sissi, about the woman who married Franz Joseph I and became Empress of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Breaking local news
"Three killed, eight injured in shooting at Southport Yacht Basin".
Three people are dead and eight others are injured after a shooting at the Southport Yacht Basin.
The City of Southport posted an emergency notice on social media shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.
The City of Southport spokesperson stated that three people were killed when someone opened fire at the basin Saturday night. The current conditions of the eight other people who were injured are unknown.
People on Facebook are saying that the shooting occurred at or near a seafood restaurant (The American Fish Company), which is just a few miles from where I live. Another reason I'm glad I don't eat seafood.
God bless the souls of the dead and help the injured to recover. Story is developing.
Update According to new information coming in, the shots came from a boat that motored up to the dockside restaurant, the shooter spraying the crowd outside with bullets.

He filed numerous lawsuits, most of which were dismissed, and has posted extensively online about alleged conspiracies, including claims of having a fabricated identity, surviving assassination attempts, and being poisoned. Hey, I just bought something from Australia that most Australians can't buy...
...not without jumping through a lot of hoops, anyway. It's a Glock Gen 3, model 27, one of the so-called "baby Glocks", chambered in .40 S&W.
This one came from a small lot of Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) trade-ins purchased by Atlantic Firearms from the Queensland Police. It came with a 10-round magazine, and is fitted with a grip extension. I ordered a couple of extra 9-round magazines from another source (also used); the base plates fit flush with the magazine well. I field-stripped the pistol and found that it had almost no schmutz at all, either in the barrel or in the slide. The policeman who had this gun must have either rarely fired it, or was very conscientious about maintenance (or both).
I took it to the range today. The gun works flawlessly: no jams, no failures to feed or eject. Shoots a little low, but I anticipate that practice will bring me up to speed on it. All in all, I am very satisfied. Buying military and police surplus is kind of like buying a pig in a poke, but I've generally been pretty lucky. I consider this purchase a great deal.
I was also shooting a Charter Arms Undercoverette today: a snub-nosed revolver chambered in .32 H&R Magnum. I loaded it with .32 S&W long lead wadcutters, and the thing turns out to be the most accurate snub-nose I've got. Recoil is inconsequential. Might be something nice for Mrs. Paco to carry.

The White House’s budget office directed federal agencies to draw up plans to permanently reduce their workforces if there is a government shutdown next week, raising the specter of mass firings on top of the customary furloughs during a lapse in funding.
The new memo sent by Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought sharply raises the stakes for funding talks and increases the pressure on Senate Democrats, who are demanding that Republicans restore hundreds of billions of dollars in healthcare spending as a condition of their support for keeping the government funded.
This is the best opportunity for delivering Northern Virginia from the leftist chokehold on state and national elections in decades. Once the bureaucrats and government lawyers are canned en masse, there won't be any reason for them to hang around Fairfax and Arlington.
I can't imagine any other Republican hopeful doing this, with the possible exception of Vance. We've waited for - how many years, now? Twenty? Thirty? - for Republicans to turn and charge the Democrats, and it's finally happening. I don't know how long it will last, but it's a glorious thing to see.

Turning point
I checked in, from time to time, on the memorial service for Charlie Kirk, and it was extremely impressive.
I was bowled over by Charlie Kirk's wife, Erica. Erica Kirk's speech was, in my opinion, magnificent, a riveting tribute, a solemn display of grief, and a message of hope. When she paused and looked up and softly said - almost whispered - "God help me", then proceeded to say "I forgive him" (speaking of the assassin) it was one of the most sublime Christian acts I have ever witnessed, and I honor her for that, without qualification and with all due humility.

Any sale would represent the most dramatic change in ownership for the 182-year-old weekly since 2015, when British education publisher Pearson sold the majority of its 50% stake alongside its sale of The Financial Times. The magazine was founded in 1843 and has enjoyed Rothschild investment ever since.
However, overall readership has been in decline for at least a decade, which is the likely reason for the sale of shares by longtime benefactors. In 2015 The Economist maintained an audience of 1.6 million; that has fallen to 1.2 million in 2025, similar to reader numbers the outlet held in the early 2000s.
The magazine's predictable drift toward the Left probably isn't helping, either.
So, I'm thinking that this might be a good investment for Paco Enterprises. With a change in title, format and orientation, I believe we can get that circulation up...

Republicans need to stop just "taking it"

If Democrats won't take violence off the table, then violence they shall have.

Sure, pal, what could possibly go wrong? Except that I'll have the DEA, the sheriff's department and the State Bureau of Investigation dropping by to talk to me about my Texas Star hibiscus plants several times a month.

A day to remember the attacks on American soil carried out on September 11, 2001 by Islamic fanatics, and to honor the victims who perished that day.
Patriotism is something we could sure use more of, as increasingly ignorant generations continue to take for granted their birthright of liberty. Our most dangerous enemies today are striking from within, and their motivations are becoming more insane by the day. Be vigilant, be on guard, and stay safe.

More violence
Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot today at an event in Utah. Ace of Spades is all over it, including the aggregation of comments being spewed by our canting leftwing media, which is now operating like a more or less free-standing version of the Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda.
We offer our prayers for Charlie Kirk's survival and recovery, and speedy justice for his would-be * assassin (btw, the post behind the first link above shows the suspect detained by the cops; he looks to be in his sixties or seventies, and resembles Bernie Sanders without the combover).
*Kirk reportedly has died. God rest his soul.
Also, the man previously detained apparently is not the shooter. The assassin is still at large.
