From the way back machine

Via friend and commenter JeffS. Do y'all remember these?

There was a period of a couple of years when I and my two best friends would go to McDonald's late Sunday morning/early afternoon practically every week to eat some burgers and fries after a long Saturday night of, er, Bible study or some such, and I remember these ashtrays. Overall, I spent more time in Burger Kings, however, but they had ashtrays, too.

I used to think of the 1970s as a low, tacky sort of decade, and I guess it was, but now that I'm approaching my dotage, I find that I have a lot of good memories from that time.

  1. I don't really remember that, but it's probably because I never got to eat there much until I started college in 1971.
The Happy Meal didn't come along until 1979, so technically, I doubt anyone was smoking right next to their Happy Meal. But, yeah, smoking was allowed in a lot of places back then.
