Happy National Joe Day!

First time I ever heard of this one, but March 27th is National Joe Day, when we celebrate people named Joe, Joseph, Josephine, etc. I think there may be a tie-in with coffee, too.

So, I'll drink a cup in honor of my late father and my elder son. Joe Stalin is excluded by acclamation. As is Joe Biden.

Update

A repost of a photo of my father , taken in 1946 (at the age of 17 or 18), dressed up and wearing a, er, very stylish necktie that I would love to have had.

  1. 17 or 18? Dad looks at least ten years older.
That tie would have caused a sensation if he wore it to church on Sunday.

  2. Is it his high school senior picture? Has that look to it, but surprising it's in color. Do you know if it has been colorized?

    1. Maybe they used sepia photography and colored in the design on the tie. I don't know. But that may well have been his graduation picture.

  3. And who did he marry? Joe Mama?

  4. I added this to my calendar, so I can raise my morning mug of Joe to Joe ... ... where ever that person (save Biden and Stalin) may be.

Classy photo of your pa there! I agree, it was likely his graduation picture -- that was a huge celebration back when, preparatory to booting the fledgling from the nest.

  5. My mother’s name was Mary Josephine, and she was called Jo all her life, so thanks for the recognition. In 1946, she was having me.

    3. The good lookin' folks were mainly on my father's side of the family. I took after my mother's side, and, while the girls were all quite attractive, the men tend to look like hill apes.

  6. Notice the serious demeanor, the steely eyes, and the severe hair cut.
He looks like a junior G-man, with a sense of humor. How else to explain the tie?

    1. You pretty much nailed it. He did a hitch in the Army, then became a city cop and then a Stanly Country deputy sheriff, and then joined the ATF. I'm not sure the tie would have been an example of his sense of humor; he always had an eye for the, er, rare and beautiful, so he probably thought it was the epitome of fashion. But he did have a great sense of humor; he was one of the few people who could make me laugh till I cried. I sure miss him.
