...perhaps just stringing them along, accumulating opportunities for further damaging their command structure and their rapidly diminishing military capability. But please get this straight, Mr. President: Iran is not interested in any kind of genuine, permanent deal: "Trump Says Iran Called Begging for Deal After US Strikes, Says US Will Hit Iran 20 Times as Hard if They Attack – 'They Want to Make a Deal So Badly'".

The thing with Trump, you don't know what he's doing until he's done.
ReplyDeleteHe gets called an idiot in the middle, then he accomplishes what he set out to accomplish.
He has to know negotiation takes two, reasonable, people and the Iranians aren't reasonable.
I'll reserve judgement until he's done.
That's true. That's why I'm not criticizing the overall thrust of the Iran war. Trump has a way of getting 'er done. It's just that the relentless talk of a "deal" makes me wary. But that, too, may be part of the plan.
DeleteVERY wary.
DeleteHe probably doesn't know how much rope it takes for the leader(s) of Iran to hang themselves, but he'll know it when he sees it.
ReplyDeleteYou're fired!
From what I'm reading, Iran is fractured internally, both by design and getting pounded by Israel and America.
ReplyDeleteBy design: when their Ayatollah was killed, standing orders devolved leadership from him to 32 separate commands -- 31 districts in Iran, and the city of Tehran.
The rest of the fractures come from the dying economy and destruction of the military infrastructure.
So the IRGC wants to keep on fighting, but the politicians (such as they are) may or may not be pretending to negotiate (my money is on pretending), and the mullahs are doing whatever mullahs do. But I am certain there ain't gonna be no deal.
The problem being, killing all of the IRGC without putting boots on the ground is impossible. Add in the waffling and backstabbing from the other Islamic nations, including those getting whammied by the IRGC, and it's a hot mess.
I want Trump to send Iran back to the Stone Age. The ordinary Iranians will suffer, but the Iranian thugocrats will what they want ... ... and deserve.
But I don't know when or how Trump might do that.
I’ve stopped trying to guess what’s going on with Trump and Iran. The Iranians (IRGC, the mullahs, even the rank and file, whatever) only want to “make a deal” to get a pause so they can reload. Now, some are saying that Trump negotiated with them to give US time to reload because we used up so much ordnance.
ReplyDeleteWere it me, this would be the deal: we're gonna kill every last one of you A-holes, and then we're gonna come in and take the nuclear material.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that!
