I thought I owed you all at least some good news

From Australia:

"'A miracle': Officer shot in head during Bondi attack home from hospital".

A young police officer who was shot in the head during the Bondi Beach attack has been released from hospital.
Probationary Constable Jack Hibbert - who is just four months into the job - was patrolling a Hanukkah event when two gunmen opened fire, injuring over 40 people and killing 15.

That particular news item is from December of last year; however, the exciting news from friend and commenter Mick is that Constable Jack Hibbert has returned to duty. I'm always particularly glad to see these young heroes overcome the odds and return to their profession.

  2. I only just read this story about the young bloke and he has certainly been through a lot. He has lost vision permanently in one eye from the shooting and when the doctors were dealing with that they found a tumour behind his good eye. He underwent brain surgery in May this year to remove the tumour and has still managed to be back on duty in 10 months. Blessings come in many ways.

  3. We still make 'em tough over here. (Just not as many as we used to, dammit.)

  4. He is one tough hombre. I've seen so many cases of law enforcement officers being permanently disabled, or otherwise rendered unfit for duty due to injuries, that it's a joy to see a cop beat the odds and return to the street. God bless him and his family.
