The people I despise are trying to destroy him

That's a good enough reference for me.

  1. One of the comments on X: "You’re also overlooking the pettier aspect that virtually every flag officer feels slighted that a National Guard O4 is the SECDEF. They feel like it’s insulting to THEIR institution."

THEY have an institution? I thought the institution was the US military, to which they are a member, not an owner. If they can't accept that the President is the Commander in Chief, and gets to name the Secretary of War, they should probably just leave.

    1. Either a former National Guard officer or a former major would be an insult to them, r-man.

But both? 'Tis a mortal insult from the lowest class!

  2. Recall Marine (Semper Fi) general Mattis bragging about lying to his CiC about troops in Syria.
That's when I realized they needed to sack everybody above 0-6 and look carefully at the rest.
When a Marine general is very not fideles, we're in a bad place.

    1. General Marshall cashiered or forced into retirement something like 600 officers, ranging from captain to major general. THAT caused howls of outrage, especially when those officers were in the National Guard.

And he had to deal with something like 23 years of arteriosclerosis. Hesgeth gets to deal with over 80 years. Counting from WWII, anyway. Add in the NGOs and corporate fat cats, and it ain't easy.
