Now That's a Conservative

To my great discredit, I must admit that I have never gotten around to reading P.D. James; however, it pleased me mightily to read about her in this American Spectator article.

Funny, it was during my P.D. James sojourn that I decided it was time to enter mystery novel rehab. I realized that my next step was the Francis jockey series and I just said "enough!".

Highly recommended: The Dorothy Sayers mysteries. The chemistry between Lord Peter Wimsey and his manservant Bunter is just priceless. Start with "Murder Must Advertise".

Yojimbo, I've always loved murder mysteries...but my one attempt at the jockey series put me off for a LONG time. Thanks for the validation that I am NOT the only one.

Feeling like I may have time to read again, will begin with your recommendations, thank you again!

In the 90's I read some of her work and was quite impressed. I may re-read them, thanks to you Paco.

For pure enjoyment [and mystery], I would recommend the Lovejoy series by Jonathan Gash. He's the ultimate charming rogue [the TV series, which waters-down his law breaking, starring the great (and charming) Ian McShane, is well-worth it too and a pleasant way to spend a night of viewing].

I suggest starting with the first book: "Whose Body". The villain is a 'Scientist' of great renown, etc.

Cheers

P.G. Wodehouse for me. Blue-faced barbarian that I am.

Or maybe Randall Garrett...
