"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
I think Reason's comment thread got a little side-tracked on that article.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I do have a knuckle-dragging, inarticulate side.
ReplyDeleteMostly, it stays quiescent, until I read Brooks.
That nails Brooks squarely.
ReplyDeleteIn a similar vein to Brooks' bleating, Germans are now having huge rallies in effect demanding a return to feudalism -

which is where Brooks' 'communitarian' principles ultimately lead.
Wow, all that German mobilisation sounds kind of familiar too.
Bruce: Really good article. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSmitty: Brooks does seem to trigger an atavistic desire to reach for a club.
Paco,
ReplyDeletethat is one of the funniest sets of commentary i've read since the old Tim Blair blog days!
cheers

Bruce, that is an excellent article, and a scary one. It sounds like the pre-WWII attitudes are on the rise again in Germany.
ReplyDeleteAs for David Brooks.....that fool needs to be horse whipped. Daily.
Carpefraise: You're right about that! It was just like the glory years of Tim Blair's old site!
ReplyDeleteIt really gets to me guys, reading that comment thread, that there are still smart people out there who know what's going down, but are forced to commune surreptitiously like that, while the idiots have captured the high ground and are running the show.
ReplyDeleteI guess if they're smart enough to silence the rest of us then they're not idiots, but they talk idiocy. No doubt that is the new passive-aggressive dominance strategy.

PW: 'trive', sounds like a good word to name the moonbats, the Trives. (Contrived tribes!)
