Assortment

Mark Steyn and Hugh Hewitt discuss – or rather, romp through - a range of current issues.

Why is the Republican establishment pushing so hard for Mitt Romney? Jeff G. would honestly like to know (and so would I).

Herman Cain is a gentleman. Lawrence O’Donnell is not.

Warren Buffett continues to tax my patience.

A really interesting piece by Quinn Hillyer on the Republican debates, focusing on the different perceptions one gets from seeing and hearing the candidates, and then reading the transcripts of what they said.

Of particular interest to Australians: the return of Margo Kingston (Reminds me of the old days at Tim Blair’s previous joint. Good times, good times).

The problem was, it wasn’t supposed to be a submarine.

Chip off the ol’ crock: Jesse Jackson, Jr. thinks Obama should declare some kind of jobs martial law.
Illinois Democratic Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. told The Daily Caller on Wednesday that congressional opposition to the American Jobs Act is akin to the Confederate “states in rebellion.”

Jackson called for full government employment of the 15 million unemployed and said that Obama should “declare a national emergency” and take “extra-constitutional” action “administratively” — without the approval of Congress — to tackle unemployment.
So, voting down Obama’s phony jobs bill was, what, like Fort Sumter? And Mitch McConnell is General Beauregard? I guess Junior wasn’t considered smart enough to run a beer distributorship, hence his entry into politics.

Jackie Kennedy: a pretty nasty piece of work, according to Paula Cohen.

Many thanks to Smitty for posting this video of the great Alonso Rachel, taking on Herman Cain’s race-baiting critics.

Charles Krauthammer opines on Obama’s irresponsible descent into the politics of class warfare.

Lumpenproletariat plans national convention. Paco Enterprises going long on penicillin, hazmat suits and Febreze.

Update: Woo woo! My earlier J.Packington Paco story linked at WSJ.

  1. Always nice when a white liberal lectures a black on what it is to be a real, authentic black. Must be scary for him.

  3. The Jackson family was hypocritical and incompetent back when I lived in Chicago; I see no reason why his spawn should be intellectually or morally improved.

  4. PS: Congrats on the WSJ link! That'll be a great endorsement for when you publish your J.Packington Paco anthology.

  5. Congratulations!

    Well, there goes the neighborhood.
I guess we have reached that 'we knew you when moment".

Does this mean you'll have to become a Yankee fan now?

  6. YoJ: I shall resume my customary position in the middle of the lowing herd before I become a...*sniff*...Yankee fan.

  8. As a onetime boat owner, I cringe for the owners of that disaster, but whatever made them think it would float? It looked like they were trying to sail a wedding cake on its platter...

  9. I miss the old Tim Blair site too.

You just can't get the same back and forth when you have to wait hours for your comments to be approved.

  10. I've never understood the whole Kennedy (Jackie or John or any of the rest of the clan) worship thing.

  11. Woohooo! Blogger has graciously decided to allow me to comment tonight. I must immediately go slaughter another chicken to appease those digital gods.

  12. I wonder if a digital chicken will do.

  13. Oh, come on: Mitt is pure Progressive Ruling Class. Equestrian down to his boots. It's no mystery why the DC crowd would fancy him.

  14. WSJ, great!

Remember that aussie blogger born in Poland, and WSJ Opinion J published his blog? (With local critics here dubious that it was 'really' WSJ) Then he went off to write novels.

    Just saying.

  15. I may be naive, but I like Herman Cain and hope he does become US President.

As a successful entrepreneur Cain knows from experience what Obama doesn't know:

I disliked Obama since I heard him since before his election referring to business as if it was just a matter of raking in money. He is unaware what makes a business fail. And that's the big problem.

  16. Wow, we're really rubbing virtual elbows now!

My mother had total contempt for Jackie Kennedy, as did all of my aunts. They recognized her as the type of woman who pretends to be soft and helpless, but is ruthlessly manipulative underneath. Everybody who ever went to high school knows the type.
