Let’s just call it what it is: the natural fallout when you’re a member of a family riddled with entitled, underachieving drunks, drug addicts and adulterers, whose treatment of women is historically deplorable. If nothing else, turning this gaggle of riff raff into a kind of uncrowned American royalty reveals a singularly appalling flaw in the country’s imagination – exacerbated, as always, by the compliant, partisan media.
Although, in truth, I wonder if the family actually qualifies as a dynasty any longer. I believe there are very few Kennedy’s holding office these days, and none whom anyone is seriously talking up as a future figure of national interest. No doubt, a Kennedy can still probably win election in Massachusetts or in some nearby liberal hell-hole with relative ease; however, with respect to national appeal, the brand seems to have been damaged beyond repair. Maybe, one day, a blood member of the family will even turn Republican ( stranger things have happened).
I agree with Maureen. And they do seem to be fading into the woodwork. Let us hope it stays that way. JFK was certainly charismatic. I was way too young when he died to remember much about him - besides, my father was a Nixon man. But he was a scoundrel and his father paid heavily to have that information suppressed.
ReplyDeleteMary, however, should have known better RFKjr was cheating on his wife with her. He was bound to leave her as well.
It's fading into a back bench status, ruined by their own decadence and arrogance. Good riddance to them all.
ReplyDeleteI remember the Kennedy era very well (I was in high school), and I remember that a cult of personality surrounded him much like the one built around Obama today. He was a golden god who could do no wrong, according to the media narrative, and Jackie was his goddess. They were American Royalty, Washington DC was Camelot, etc. etc. blah blah blah.
ReplyDeleteMy dad didn't like the Kennedys, and didn't trust them, and most everyone knew his old man was a bootlegger. But that was nothing compared to contempt Dad had for LBJ.
