"What difference does it make?"

Update and bumped to top - Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings, at the Benghazi hearing today: "Death is part of life".

And stupid is part of Elijah Cummings (a substantial part).

I guess we'll begin to find out today, as the House Oversight Committee hears testimony from various "whistleblowers" on the Benghazi disaster.

I think the short answer to Hillary's notorious question is that the truth always matters. Longer answer: we need to know precisely what went wrong so that when the government sends other Americans into harm's way, they can have confidence that everything possible has been done to provide them with appropriate security. The evidence, so far, supports the conclusion that, when the metaphorical "3 am phone call" came, both Hillary's telephone, and the president's, were off the hook.

Finally, it makes a difference as to whether this disgraceful episode was the result of massive incompetence or of something more...complex, let us say. The unvarnished truth is the only way to discover the right path to remediation.
