The world has taken America for granted. Specifically, they assume that flyover Americans will continue to make up a powerful global military and enable everyone else to 'sleep easy in their beds' as Orwell said. It's disgraceful disrespect, apathy and laziness.
It is such a relief to feel Mr Trump make this point, to feel him giving the dependants a kick. OK places like Lithuania have no choice and are grateful and the US is generously concerned about them, but the EU leaders are incredibly arrogant (because they have this abstract belief in their own higher morality, as if Immanuel Kant ruled the world).
It's funny how everyone thinks Israel should 'get on with its neighbours' yet they don't say the same for Poland which is in very much the same situation. A blinkered world.
