"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
The officer is named...Mohamed Noor. A Somali immigrant. It just gets weirder & weirder.
That one is puzzling. There has to be more to the story.
According to a report in the Daily Mail the cops had not activated their body cameras because they were not expecting anything to happen, in accordance with MPD policy. In other words the cops were not expecting to be going into a dangerous situation. The Somali officer who fired the shot was in the passenger seat and fired thru the drivers window, so the driver probably got a face full of muzzle blast and a severe case of tinnitus.
I certainly don't blame the police for this. Sounds like the 'officer' is an incompetent and dangerous affirmative action hire, the desk jockeys filling quotas.
I should add, protocols differ between the US and Australia about how to approach situations, and Australians get into trouble when they forget to allow for differences. I'm not discounting that may have been a factor.
bruce,I'd say that was not a factor. Supposedly the other cop was shocked when he shot. I'd more look at a guy who came from a country without any sort of rule of law being trained in a few months to be an American police officer. I cannot think of a case where the passenger cop should shoot across the driver cop to shoot an unarmed person who called them about a sexual assault. Especially since we haven't seen the other cop say, "He saved my life!"Which would be the only reason for such a shooting. If the guy dealing with her didn't see a reason to shoot, someone else should not have fired. I could see the one cop saying being obtuse and her saying something like, "somebody's being effing raped. Do your effing job you assholes!" and then being shot.
