A little background

I know what a Sam Browne belt is...



...but just recently learned its history.

Old Paco wore one when he was a city cop back in the mid-1950s. Very dashing!

  1. I recall that George MacDonald Fraser has Flashman commenting on the Sam Brown belt in one of the books, probably the one set during the Indian Mutiny.

    That I can't remember more specifically tells me that it's time to reread the series again.

  3. My dad wore a Sam Browne belt with his uniform (when he quit his career as a perforation engineer with the oil industry, he became a small town cop). Eventually, the department did away with the belts, but he kept his. I always thought they looked great.
