Michael "Dodo" Marmarosa, who became an important pianist in bop music, also performed with some of the best-known swing bands in the mid-40s, including those of Artie Shaw and Charlie Barnet. Here he is, taking a decidedly "boppish" turn with Barnet's orchestra, in "The Moose".

ReplyDeleteI prefer his contemporary Bud Powell. Both their careers were cut short in different ways. The 1940s were a great fertile era of music which became the basis of later decades.
