Happy Feet Friday

Michael "Dodo" Marmarosa, who became an important pianist in bop music, also performed with some of the best-known swing bands in the mid-40s, including those of Artie Shaw and Charlie Barnet. Here he is, taking a decidedly "boppish" turn with Barnet's orchestra, in "The Moose".

  1. WOW! Just WOW! Gotta love anyone with the nickname of Dodo. It's surprising that it wasn't "fire fingers". I'm adding this to my Bullwinkle collection.

Paco, thanks for the introduction. I love your music lessons.

  2. Deb: I'm still in the process of learning, myself.

  3. I prefer his contemporary Bud Powell. Both their careers were cut short in different ways. The 1940s were a great fertile era of music which became the basis of later decades.
