...and was surprised to see that the sun had risen. Considering the government shutdown, I really didn't know what to expect.
One important side benefit of the shutdown (once it truly kicks in; many agencies are funded through the end of the calendar year) is that the American people will see how limited the impact is on their daily lives. Then, perhaps, voters will start wondering why we have so much government at all.

Well, as some have pointed out, if taxes are still being collected, the government really isn't shut down.
ReplyDeleteAnd to elaborate on your point about agencies funded through the end of the year ... ... a fair number are funded for the entire year. Others have "no year" funding appropriations. So voters may well see just how limited the impact is on their daily lives. In a friendlier fashion than the Obama imposed shutdown, where the agencies somehow found the money to barricade national manuments in Washington, DC.
On a completely unrelated note, have you checked out the Coalition Of The Swilling lately? Mr. B makes a great point there.

Great link from C of the S!
ReplyDeleteI remember Obama even had park rangers chasing people away from scenic overlooks next to highways.
Park Ranger: "Sorry, sir, you can't stop here."
Motorist: "I didn't stop to enjoy the scenery, ranger, I stopped to change a flat tire."
Park Ranger: "Oh. Well, just don't let me catch you looking at that mountain over there."
Yes IRC that was a busload of Aussie tourists Paco. The Rangers escorted them off the park at gunpoint, I pictured a zealous Deputy in an older sitcom (?or movie?) who was always pulling out her gun...
ReplyDeleteShould be 'If I Recall', sorry.
ReplyDeleteOops, heheh.
