Weird history

Stumbled across this video about the Beast of Gévaudan, a rampaging animal of some sort that terrorized a region in south-central France in the mid-1760s. Kind of interesting, although there's a bit too much professorial blah-blah in the last couple of minutes by the narrator.

I'm thinking a wolf-dog hybrid, size exaggerated by those who saw it and were scared. Wolf-dogs aren't as wild as wolves, but far more dangerous because they have no fear of man. And 18th century illustrators were horrible.

Weren't they, though?

I think you're probably right about the thing being some kind of wolf-dog mix.

Or it could have been an early sighting of ManBearPig.
