"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
One problem is they globalised their economy in so many ways. So now there are winners and losers whichever option they go. Just the fact that the Irish border became a major problem shows just what a mess the UK got itself into without foresight. Too much swinging 60s not enough careful leadership like in the Queen Victoria era. But the rot started in the 20s with the Bright Young Things who thought the world was their playground, the 60s were just a continuation of a slow collapse which started after WW1 I think.
ReplyDeleteI'll be the first to clap if they can emerge from this, but I'm not hopeful.
Leave it to the elite British politicians to keep holding referendums until they get the vote they want.
