Would you like a little graft to go with that hypocrisy?

Chicago City Council member Ed Burke has been charged with trying to shake down a restaurant franchise; interestingly, this outspoken advocate of gun control had 23 guns in his office.

  8. I've known some people (natives or long-time residents) who take a perverse sort of pride in Chicago's reputation for corruption and violence - which strikes me as completely irrational, don't get it at all.

    It's the only game in town. A very stupid and amazingly expensive one, but the gangsters have the local politics sewn up tight. This was the case when I lived there in the 1980s.

    And the primary reason as to why I moved.
