Another infamous act

May God bless the souls of those people, mostly Christians, who died in the most recent Islamic terrorist outrage in Sri Lanka, and help the injured to recover.

Update: Apparently, both Obama and Hillary couldn't recall the word "christian" when offering condolences to the victims of terrorism, referring, instead, to "Easter worshipers" - which briefly conjured up a vision in my mind of thousands of people cowering before a giant stone idol of a scowly-faced rabbit. Well, can't take the chance of getting pegged as Islamaphobes, I suppose, which could happen if they mentioned the fact that there are other religions in the world besides Islam.

The Christian communities of southern India and Sri Lanka are very ancient with a legend they were founded by the Apostle Thomas. So old they are known as 'Nasrani'(Nazarenes) and were close to the Persian/Syrian Orthodox church before being conquered by the Portuguese around 1500. Boats from Rome and the Mediteranean have been visiting that coast for at least 2000 years, brought by annual monsoon winds.

I spent months among them in 2012 out of curiosity. Kerala is one of the few places in the world where you still see Catholic nuns in traditional garb, despite the heat! Many Catholic parish priests in Australia now come either from India or Africa too. In southern India there are millions of Christians and Sri Lanka is not far away.

I stayed for a month at a Trappist monastery named Kurisumala: 'Mountain of the Cross' with the gentle monks, and hundreds of visitors all the time.

This attack is terrible beyond words.

Indeed. May God bless the departed, the wounded, their families and friends. May God bless the first responders, medical professionals, and clergy.

Great historical context, Bruce.

Isn't it interesting that all the Democratic Talking Heads used "Easter worshipper"? It's almost like someone behind the scenes is telling them what to say, and they don't know how to change it up to make it plausible.
